Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based company building the world's only mass-produced, transportable nuclear microreactors. The U.S. grid is under growing strain, with power demand accelerating, driving higher utility costs, rising carbon emissions, and interconnection backlogs. Radiant has a solution, transportable, on-site power. Our first reactor, Kaleidos, is 1 megawatt: small enough to be factory-built, transported by land, sea, or air, and deployed wherever power is needed. 1 MW can power 1000 homes for five years. Ship it back and we refuel for a 20 year operating life. We made energy a product that can be used for critical infrastructure like military bases, data centers, hospitals, and remote sites, as well as the commercial main street businesses that keep America running. Founded in 2020, Radiant is under contract to deliver power to the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force and has signed pre-order agreements with Equinix, with deployments beginning in 2028.
We are looking for a Metrology Specialist to help build and advance Radiant’s precision measurement and verification capabilities as we scale advanced reactor manufacturing. You will serve as a technical expert in dimensional metrology, precision inspection, and measurement technologies, ensuring that critical components and assemblies can be accurately and reliably verified against engineering requirements.
This is a hands-on technical role that goes beyond operating inspection equipment. You will perform complex dimensional inspections, develop measurement strategies, program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), and partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to solve challenging measurement problems. You will help translate complex designs, tolerances, and functional requirements into practical, repeatable verification methods.
You will also play a key role in building Radiant’s metrology and verification technology capabilities, evaluating and implementing advanced measurement equipment, developing inspection methodologies, and establishing the infrastructure needed to support increasingly complex hardware and production volumes. As our manufacturing capabilities evolve, you will help shape how Radiant approaches precision measurement, automation, and dimensional verification across the product lifecycle.
Serve as Radiant’s metrology subject matter expert by providing technical guidance on precision measurement, dimensional inspection, measurement uncertainty, and verification methodologies.
Perform complex dimensional inspections using CMMs, precision measurement instruments, and other inspection technologies to verify components and assemblies against engineering specifications.
Develop and optimize CMM programs including measurement routines, inspection setups, fixturing strategies, and reporting methods to improve accuracy, repeatability, and inspection efficiency.
Build advanced measurement and verification capabilities by evaluating, selecting, qualifying, and implementing new metrology equipment, technologies, and inspection methods.
Develop inspection strategies in collaboration with Engineering and Quality to ensure critical dimensions, geometric tolerances, and product characteristics can be effectively verified.
Apply GD&T and dimensional metrology principles to interpret engineering drawings, identify measurement challenges, and establish appropriate verification approaches.
Support design for inspectability by partnering with Design and Manufacturing Engineering early in development to ensure dimensional requirements are measurable, practical, and achievable.
Establish and improve metrology processes including measurement procedures, inspection methodologies, equipment verification, measurement system analysis, and standardized reporting.
Advance inspection technology and automation by identifying opportunities to improve measurement throughput, integrate digital inspection tools, and reduce manual inspection effort.
Support measurement equipment management including calibration requirements, equipment qualification, maintenance, and traceability to recognized measurement standards.
Investigate dimensional and measurement challenges by supporting root cause analysis, resolving discrepancies, and distinguishing product variation from measurement system variation.
Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to develop practical measurement solutions that support product integrity, manufacturing readiness, and scalability.
3–7 years of relevant experience in dimensional metrology, precision inspection, manufacturing quality, or a related technical environment.
Hands-on experience programming and operating CMMs, including developing measurement routines and evaluating inspection results.
Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including ASME Y14.5 principles and applications.
Experience interpreting complex engineering drawings, CAD models, dimensional tolerances, and technical specifications.
Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and other dimensional inspection instruments.
Understanding of measurement accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, measurement uncertainty, and calibration principles.
Ability to develop effective measurement and inspection approaches for complex geometries, tight tolerances, and challenging part configurations.
Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate dimensional discrepancies and recommend practical solutions.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
Strong attention to detail, technical documentation skills, and commitment to producing accurate, defensible inspection results.
Experience with CMM programming software such as PC-DMIS, ZEISS CALYPSO, PolyWorks, or equivalent platforms
Experience with advanced measurement technologies such as laser trackers, portable measurement arms, optical measurement systems, structured-light scanning, or 3D scanning technologies
Experience developing or implementing new metrology capabilities, including equipment selection, qualification, commissioning, and process development
Familiarity with model-based definition (MBD), digital inspection planning, CAD-based measurement, or automated inspection workflows
Experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), Gage R&R, uncertainty analysis, or correlation studies between measurement methods
Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540, or other calibration and measurement standards
Experience designing inspection fixtures, measurement setups, or specialized tooling for complex components and assemblies
Familiarity with metrology data analysis, statistical methods, inspection software, or integrating measurement results into manufacturing and Quality systems
Experience supporting precision-machined components, welded assemblies, pressure-boundary hardware, or complex mechanical systems
Exposure to aerospace, nuclear, defense, energy, semiconductor, or another high-reliability manufacturing industry
Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, NQA-1, or other formal Quality Management Systems
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
